What We Believe

Statement of Faith

We believe in the divine Lordship of Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, as revealed in the New Testament. We affirm the Holy Bible as the inspired word of God and the basis for our beliefs. We voluntarily band ourselves together as a body of baptized believers in Jesus Christ personally committed to sharing the good news of salvation with all persons.

The Scriptures

The Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is the record of God's revelation of Himself to man. It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter. It reveals the principles by which God judges us; and therefore is, and will remain to the end of the world, the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and religious opinions should be tried. The criterion by which the Bible is to be interpreted is Jesus Christ.

God

There is one and only one living and true God. He is an intelligent, spiritual, and personal Being, the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver, and Ruler of the universe. God is infinite in holiness and all other perfections. To Him we owe the highest love, reverence, and obedience.

The eternal God reveals Himself to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence or being.

From the Baptist Faith and Message (1963)

Baptism

Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer’s faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Saviour, the believer’s death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus. It is a testimony to his faith in the final resurrection of the dead. Being a church ordinance, it is prerequisite to the privileges of church membership and to the Lord’s Supper.

From the Baptist Faith and Message (1963)

Lord's Supper

The Lord's Supper is a symbolic act of obedience whereby members of the church, through partaking of the bread and the fruit of the vine, memorialize the death of the Redeemer and anticipate His second coming.

The Family

Christian marriage is a sacred covenant in which a man and a woman commit themselves to one another before God and the Church. It is a lifelong union of love, faithfulness, and mutual service, rooted in Christ and shaped by the Scriptures.

Biblical foundations

  • Mutual submission: marriage begins with a shared posture of humility—“submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ” (Ephesians 5:21).
  • One-flesh union: husband and wife are joined in a new family bond—leaving and cleaving—so that “the two become one flesh” (Genesis 2:18–25).
  • Equal dignity before God: spouses are “heirs together of the grace of life” and are to honour one another (1 Peter 3:7).
  • Mutual responsibility: each gives themselves to the other with care, respect, and consent (1 Corinthians 7:3–5).
  • Sacrificial love: spouses are called to Christlike love and honor—love that nourishes, cherishes, and seeks the good of the other (Ephesians 5:25–30).

What this means for couples

  • A covenant with God at the center: Christian marriage is not only a promise to one another, but a commitment made before God, seeking his grace and guidance.
  • A shared spiritual life: husband and wife grow in faith together—praying, worshipping, learning, and supporting one another as disciples of Jesus.
  • A shared vocation and mission: marriage forms a home where love is practiced daily and hospitality, service, and witness can be offered to others.
  • A pattern of self-giving service: spouses seek to build one another up—listening well, forgiving freely, and choosing the other’s good, especially when it is costly.
